Missile carrying C-124

One of the quite secrets of the cold war era.   Nuke missle C-124 transports.

Jim Burnette That is a great photograph. My Dad flew C-124's out of Robins AFB back in the 50's and early 60's with the 7th Log. Flew to Japan, Germany, UK and Phillipines to name a few places. Still wondering what kind of cargo he flew - he would never discuss it. (Pretty sure he flew nukes of some sort .)

More C-124 "old Shakey" pictures.

More picture from face book of old shakey.  The aircraft carried everything for the armed forces all over the world.

The first Globie that I actually walked through. C-124C 52-0956 of the 63rd TCW based at Rhein Main, and visiting Bovingdon open day on 14 May 1960. Just a few weeks shy of sixty years ago.

Zero decals.

A-7 decals

The A-7 was a work horse for the Navy.   The USAF purchased a large number but turned them over to the Guard and Reserve units.   The 127th FIG at Selfridge had A-7D for about a decade.  I worked on them for a few years until I transferred to the 191St "Six Pack"  The units A-7D all came from Tuson AZ.   The unit had a group of Michigan guardsmen handle the transfers.  The aircraft was easy to maintain.  It was a sad day for the 127Th when the unit converted to the F-16A's.   Why you ask, because these F-16 were the oldest in the USAF inventory.   A few of them had been pre-production and first production build's.  The manuals and wiring diagrams didn't agree to the what was in the aircraft.

Enough talk.   now for the decals.
