US Naval reserve Squadron VP-93

In the late 70's to the early 80's I was a P-3A flight engineer.   With was the greatest of my life. I got to fly in this aircraft as an FE. The Orion was an amazing aircraft.   From 1962 until up to a few months ago the aircraft was the main ASW for the naval.   A total 757 Orion's have been built.

Here are some picture of the P3-A's I crewed.

I was the FE in the chase plane

A now departed buddy used to mention the Azores , He was an ADR ,or something, as a Chief with VR-52 (R5D/C-54) at Grosse Isle NAF and they would stop over there. Before he said that I'd never heard of that place.

Boy! Do those P-3A photos bring back memories. I lived in the condos across the road from McDonnell's, not the Apt building back then. They didn't fly as much as the AG planes did, so it was a treat when you were outside to see them. Those A-4 were even less seen. That "JY" tail code was the worst I ever remember having seen on a A4._

These photos also suddenly bring back memories of an earlier time playing the enemy in mock combat against U of D's ROTC in that wooded SW corner of the Selfridge base and being told to duck because one of the newly transferred S2F Stoof squadron planes just up from Grosse Isle NAS was doing a flyover and beginning its bank to land (all planes were to be considered enemy during the exercise).

I also remember those "Northern Flag " exercises that brought in all those ADC squadrons in for a weekend (the reason I bought that condo, for the view)?

And where do you think that P-3A was to have a Buccaneer parked on one side and a Fiat G91 on the other side of it(picture 9 of 10)?

    John
